THE KYLE RITTENHOUSE VERDICT TODAY
I have to find somewhere to write about this, because…
1. It’s driving me crazy.
2. I have too many conservative friends on Facebook that I do want to remain friends with.
3. However, I do feel incredibly strongly about this, and I need to work through those feelings. But someplace safe.
The Rittenhouse trial verdict was announced this morning.
And I fully realize/recognize/acknowledge that this case was presided by a spectacularly biased judge. This was a relativity small case. This case was granted a HUGE amount of publicity.
But this is simply just so completely and totally WRONG.
And this verdict is going to do NOTHING GOOD.
The people upset about it are going to protest – it will become violent (I’m not saying the protestors will necessarily become violent, but I can guarantee that someone there will torch something somehow). And that gives more power to the extreme-far-right-wingers – “See!? This simply proves that protesters are violent, and we have to defend ourselves in these sort of situations!!!”
The people who are happy about this will just wear more weapons more openly, and firmly believe they are exercising their rights, and will expect the courts to support them when/if they get brought in.
See what I mean?
And this is really what I’d like to post on Facebook, and I don’t dare:
Imagine this – a teenage African American boy, who is being raised by a single mother, crosses state lines and brings a loaded weapon to a public protest in an adjoining state. This demonstration is sponsored by the pro-life movement – the protestors are marching about halting the new liberal abortion medications that are available via mail. This 17-year-old boy wades in aggressively, shoots three protestors, and walks away.
How do you think this trial would go? If it actually got to trial?
